Make it easier to get a directory listing by page or width. In autoexec.bat, below set
dircmd=O:GN, type the two lines:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DOSKEY DP=DIR /O:GN/P
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\DOSKEY DW=DIR /O:GN/P/W
Now all you have to do is type dp or dw for a directory by page or directory by wide view
Do you find that if you go to a DOS prompt (not through Windows, but upon resetting in DOS mode) and try to view the contents of the D: drive or run a program that way, it tells you Invalid Drive Specification? Well, it's very likely the drivers are not installed for the DOS mode.
Put in your System Floppy disk (not the CD), Press reset on your computer. Then choose the Install option. This will automatically install the drivers you need into it's own directory. After that, you should be set.
There may be times you want to use your DOS window, really. So when you do, you click on Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. Well now you have a full screen, right? Well, why not make it smaller? Run the MS-DOS Prompt in a window.
Open an Explorer to the Start Menu and navigate your way to the shortcut for MS-DOS Prompt. Press Alt+[enter] and click on the Screen tab and under Usage, select Window.
To see how to resize that window, see next tip.
